About Us

Alternative program is a large-scale annual social awareness campaign started by Vimové Foundation under Mr. Vinay Shindhe. It takes place between March and June, culminating in a final event around the United Nations' World Environment Day.

It began in 2017 under the tagline "Greener Together". Over the years, Alternative has focused on multiple issues encompassing community-centric environmental awareness, empowering youth and focusing on new-age India's contribution to sustainability, climate action, waste management and urban development.

Last year, the focus was engaging youth of Bengaluru in promoting environmental conservation through digital storytelling and impactful actions through the tagline "Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought resilience". Each edition has evolved itself to become bigger and better every year.

From the Visionary

Founder's Note

At the Vimové Foundation, one of our core objectives has always been to promote social awareness through innovative program formats and citizen engagement. Six years ago, with a vision to spark meaningful change in our surroundings, I conceptualized Alternative—an initiative that brings to light a relevant and trending social theme every year, particularly around World Environment Day.

This program was designed to ignite cultural and behavioral shifts among the citizens of Bengaluru, especially the youth. In today's rapidly evolving society, we believe that becoming active and informed citizens is not just important, but necessary.

Greater Bengaluru has increasingly become a focal point in the city's democratic and policy landscape. As a social entrepreneur, I strongly felt the need for citizens' voices to be heard. This led to the creation of initiatives such as Alternative 25, the Greater Bengaluru Survey, the City Change Makers Award, and more—each one fostering dialogue and participation across all sections of society.

Our future vision is to deepen the connection between people and their cities. By promoting sustainability and shared responsibility, we aim to replicate these initiatives across major cities in India, bringing us one step closer to building a more aware, inclusive, and sustainable urban future.
